Disciplinary

1. Purpose

The Manitoba Masters Soccer League (MMSL) is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and competitive environment for all participants aged 45 and over. This policy outlines disciplinary standards in alignment with the Laws of the Game as established by The International Football Association Board and guided by FIFA, with additional provisions reflecting the needs of a masters-level league.

2. Code of Conduct

All players, coaches, and team officials must:

• Respect referees, opponents, and teammates at all times.
• Refrain from abusive, discriminatory, or aggressive behavior.
• Prioritize safety and fair play over competitive advantage.

3. Discipline Structure

Yellow Cards (Cautions)

A player receiving four (4) yellow cards will incur a one (1) game suspension. Yellow card counts reset after a suspension is served or at play-offs.

Red Cards (Send-Offs)

Minimum automatic suspensions:

• 1 game – Denial of obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO) or tactical foul.
• 2 games – Serious foul play or dangerous tackle.
• 3+ games – Violent conduct, such as striking, kicking, or headbutting.

4. Zero-Tolerance Offenses

The following will result in immediate suspension and review by the Discipline Committee:

• Fighting or attempted fighting.
• Verbal or physical abuse of referees.
• Racist, sexist, or discriminatory language.
• Intentional acts likely to cause injury.

Sanctions: Minimum 3–5 game suspension, with potential for a season ban.

5. Masters-Specific Rules (45+)

Referees will enforce a low tolerance for reckless or late challenges. Tackles from behind or excessive force challenges will be penalized strictly.

6. Disciplinary Review

Eduardo Solano will review all red cards and major incidents. Suspensions may be increased based on referee reports. Decisions are final; an appeal process may be granted at the Committee’s discretion.

7. League Structure & Administration

The league consists of 10 teams playing a regular season schedule. All suspensions apply to the next scheduled league match(es). Suspended players are not permitted to participate or be on the team bench during suspension.

8. Record Keeping & Enforcement

The league will maintain a central record of all cautions, send-offs, and suspensions. Weekly updates will be communicated to team representatives. Teams are responsible for ensuring ineligible players do not participate.

9. Sportsmanship

The MMSL encourages positive play and mutual respect. Teams demonstrating exemplary conduct may be recognized with a seasonal Sportsmanship Award.
